Search services eating up cpu, couple of questions

Lately, right after I boot, the cpu is very busy, enough to delay typing into an Office document. It finally settles down, but not completely, always using 4 to 10% of my cpu. There are 3 search services running in Process Explorer I never noticed before (maybe they were always there and I never saw them).

1. Is this the result of a new update? I've never noticed it until today. I went to services and disabled Windows search, they all closed and I got my cpu back. I know indexing is now disabled, but I recently started using Everything Search.

2. Is there anything that won't work properly now? (Outlook complained, saying searches would be slow, but I don't care about that)

3. Anyone else seen this problem?

Thanks,
Rusty

The only thing that won't work is the start menu searching capability...and searching in general will be slower if you are searching through many files

Thanks for the replies. I have updated my system specs. Sorry, I thought I had done that; my mistake.
I've been using the Everything search tool and so far am very satisfied. It is fast and thorough. It finds files quickly, and seems to find some that the Windows search could not. I'm not sure how that can be, but, as long as it works, I'm happy.

I'd say just leave the indexing and search services turned off... If you don't add or remove any programs, keep your HDD defragmented and don't use programs like CCleaner to erase the prefetch, you will see an improvement in system response times after a couple days

That's the plan. I use Ccleaner regularly, and I keep prefetch unchecked, and 7 defrags itself (dosen't it?), so I'm good to go.

Thanks,
Rusty
