Search starts "instantly" -> CPU load :&

Problem: When I type something into my searchbox [in any open explorer window], the searching process starts "instantly", i.e. right after the first character is typed.

What no doubt is meant to be convenient, ends up hampering my workflow quite a bit, because when working with large numbers of files and wildcards (eg searching for *something*) will usually produce a temporarily locked explorer window, as Windows immediately assumes I want to search for "*", rather than letting me finish my search term(s).
A workaround I found was to type the less frequent/non-wildcard stuff first, and then add any needed wildcards afterwards .. but that's such a hassle,..

I would like to have the search to wait for my confirmation (ENTER) before running. Is there a way to configure that, by any chance?
