Search?

Sup everyone, as you may see this is my first post.

I have noticed a huge problem, wellll maybe not huge but for me it's very frustrating.

I play an online game where you are allowed to have a banner next to your name, what you're supposed to do is save it to the game's folder, but I can't seem to find it for some reason. The search button in XP used to allow me to search ALL my files and find the root of it and in the end I could save it to the right folder from Photoshop.

But with windows 7 I can't seem to search my entire computer for the files I'm looking for. The support staff in the game can't seem to help me, so I'm at a loss so I came here.

If someone could help me find out where I can search my whole computer for a .bmp file it would be appreciated, thank you!

Open the drive you want to search...Computer > Drive like C:
Then top right of the windows under the close button is the search box.
Type in: *.bmp

That didn't work, I just searched through every single .bmp and I couldn't find it. Would signing on F8 then admin maybe work if I can find these "hidden" files? I don't understand why the hell they'd be hidden but might that work?

When I try and save something right to the folder, it says "You don't have permission to save in this locationContact the administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save to My Pictures instead.

I don't understand, seeing that I am the administrator. What settings might I have to change?

What folder are you trying to save to?

It's Programfiles>Sony>Staion>cosmic Rift Now It let me save it because I searched the problem and it showed me what to do. But it's still not showing up in game.

The files that I have saved in the game, also aren't showing up in my computer. So it's super super frustrating that the files that I'm saving in the game are hidden somewhere and I can't find it at all. When I save them to the game's file, it doesn't show up in the game, when I save it in the game, it doesn't show up in the file.

If Windows 7 just gave me the same search that it did in XP, this could all be figured out very easily

I think the problem arises from the fact that in Windows Vista and Windows 7, the "C:\Program Files" and "C:\Program Files (x86)" folders are protected like the "C:\Windows" system folders, and older programs (mostly games) that try to write to said folders don't always act as expected.

For example, if Diablo II is installed to it's default location, then the "Print Screen" function to save a snapshot of the game view requires the game to be run administraive rights. The solution is when installing games, do not use the default folder. In the case of Diablo II, I change the install folder from "C:\Program Files\Blizzard\Diablo II" to "C:\Games\Diablo II".

This problem does not happen with newer games that recognize the protected status of system folders, and rather save their data into user locations such as "Documents" or "Saved Games".
