I am looking for an email provider for a second email address. It needs to be free, and privacy based with no request for 2FA or my primary email address. I've been looking at Proton. Anyone use Proton and could comment or any other suitable providers that aren't operated via a browser?

I'd say that proton mail would be your best bet however the easiest way to sign up is to provide a existing address. I'm not even sure if they allow it any other way. They have MFA and prompt for it but you don't have to use it and they don't ask again. However they have a really low space limitation (1 gb after taking certain actions) and really want people to upgrade. They have keyword tagging which I've only seen in gmail and unlike gmail they also have folders as well. They have an app as well for smart phones. I haven't tried using an email client on a computer. They seem to require their own app to use with an email client. That's not surprising with their encryption set up. Their app requires a paid plan. I haven't investigated anything else.

Thank you for the information; I've just started looking so I will keep going. I use Windows LiveMail for my main account so would like the flexibility of setting up a second email to work on LiveMail. I don't have a smart phone it just needs to work on my laptop and possibly a tablet as I'm looking into that as well (have been looking into the Murena Volla tablet).
