I'm just curious: would there be interest to create a Second Life community for friends of SevenForums?

I know this forum is already taking a lot of time for some of us, maybe a place to meet virtually would be too much. I suspect my wife would sue me for negligence ;) if I'm going to be even more involved but I'm still interested to hear what you others think.

I doubt it would take off. Second Life, although free (technically), is extremely hard to use. Even on my incredibly fast PC, it lags like hell. A majority of the players have Gothic/Furry characters, and the game's basically a way to have sexual role plays with one another.

Perhaps a W7 IRC room?

I think it's true what you say. We are a group about 10 old school mates meeting in Second Life every now and the; after todays meeting I just thought what would SevenForums say about this.

But your IRC idea is not as bad as mine was.

Second Life can appear daunting in its complexity at first but there are help zones to make the learning curve easier.
However, if you can type, you can use the chat, and if you can double-click, you can teleport to your meeting place. Simples :)

The viewer requires fairly high-spec hardware but Windows7 users should already have a good enough machine to run it.
My old Vaio laptop used to achieve an acceptable 30-40 frames per sec but my new desktop clocked 150fps last night!

With regard to sexual gameplay - the old SL gained a bad reputation thru the media, in that respect. However, 'adult' content has now been moved to a seperate continent, away from the general population. Access to that area now requires age verification.
This significant change makes SL a much less sleazy place to enjoy.

Goths and furries are a popular but nevertheless minority choice. Your avatar appearance can be literally whatever you can imagine.

I am a content creator - I build and script (mostly aircraft) for SecondLife, as well as helping people learn various skills.
As a virtual environment, it is a great place to meet, chat & exchange ideas etc.
Many real-life institutions have their own virtual meetings there.

My character (Ashone Mahogany) can usually be found either chatting at NCI (laggy) or building in IEEE sandbox (no lag).

Don't be fooled by the 'Junior' thing. I just don't post a lot.
I've been building/configuring/fault-finding PC's since Win3.11 and DOS6.2.2
I learned machine code on an 8086 & BASIC on a Commodore Pet, so I've been there from Early Days!
There's not much about PC's I'm unfamiliar with. I'm just here to find solutions to the problems Win7 presents. Not because I'm dumb or clueless.
