Second Monitor

I have a Corvalent computer running windows 7 professional 32 bit. This computer has 2 video ports, 1 DVI-I that I have my primary monitor connected. The other port is a DVI-D that I have installed a DVI-D to HDMI adapter. Windows does not detect my second monitor connected to the DVI-D port. What am I doing wrong?

do you get a screen if you just hook the second monitor up and not the first?

I'd check the manual. Sometimes with 2 video outputs you can only drive 1 digital and 1 analog. If that's the case here, using a DVI-VGA adaptor on the DVI-I socket and connecting monitor #1 with a VGA lead (if poss), and having monitor #2 on DVI-D/HDMI might fix it.

The motherboard has 2 dvi ports on it ? That is somewhat rare.

Could you please post your exact make and model of PC, we can not help you without proper information.

Also, why do you need a dvi to hdmi adapter, don`t both monitors have dvi ports ?

No, I still don't have the monitor on the DVI-D port working even if it's the only one hooked up. The computer's DVI-I port has a DVI-I to VGA adapter hooked up that drives the primary monitor. The computer's DVI-D port has a DVI-D to HDMI adapter hooked up that's connected to the second monitor. The monitor on the DVI-I port works, the monitor on the DVI-D port does not work. The monitor that doesn't work powers up but shows no signal. The computer has 2 DVI ports for video, no other ports exist. Neither monitor has a DVI port. This is an industrial computer running Windows 7 software. The original computer had a DVI-I port and an HDMI port. I will get the model number tomorrow when I get to work. I was just wondering if there might be something in Windows 7 that needs to be turned on or set up to make this work. I appreciate all of the suggestions and would be grateful for others. Thanks.

There is nothing in windows that has to be changed, this is all about the motherboard, and having the correct up to date drivers.

There is no reason a dvi to vga adapter won`t work on the 1 minitor and a dvi to hdmi won`t work with the other monitor. But this could all boil down to the dvi to hdmi adapter, the MB may not support it. You should be trying a proper dvi to hdmi cable.

Change the adapters in the dvi ports until you get both monitors working.

I can`t believe the monitor with an hdmi port does not have a dvi port, they all do.

Please post a link to the monitor you say only has an HDMI port.

You have to use the dvi to vga adapter on the proper dvi-I/analog port on the motherboard, and the dvi to hdmi adapter has to go to the dvi-D/digital port.

What is the difference between DVI-I and DVI-D?
