Securerom/Borderlands=ripped off

I have reformatted and attempted to reinstall this game,however because it's been activated I have to download and save a activation file..I do so

But

Windows cant open it and therefore I can't reactivate the game...handy.

So 2K/Gearbox get paid for a game that can be installed once apparently. I hope you read this 2K because I'm not buying any game you make any time again...

Ive never had an issue with re-install although I got mine through STEAM.


Still, all you need to do is launch the game and let it activate. If all you have done is reformat, the HW siganture will be the same and re-activation will not be a issue.

If it is giving you issues, contacting Customer Support will get you up and running in no time.

Theres a bit more to it than just a activation file. There are also registry settings.

I delete and reinstall borderlands with no probs.

In fact I use the disc to install the game and start a mp game just so to get into my game spy account and to let secure rom do its thing- Then I change out the main game folder and save game area folder I delete the borderlands main folder and the saved area folders- I just drag and drop the new with dlsc's so I can play the dlc's and not have to go through all of the normal time installing the dlc's separately- It runs great for me. I back up my saved games. After I have it all set up- I have my backed up save games in place- It is already patched etc. I am good to go..

The only other thing I might do is- I delete the game start exe from my desk top and go to main borderlands folder fine the game start exe and click send make desk top shortcut. Works for me.

Seems some games or patches do not like being installed if the exe etc is on c drive- moving the exe or patch to say a e: storage drive then try to install might work- If you have no e: drive maybe burning to a disc will work.

W7 is glitchy if you ask me- A lot of stuff I read should not be problems but are..

Ya its some good folks at gear box- some normal fan boy stuff too- but folks will help if they can.

Product home sites is most always the best place to look for help- 7 forums has nice folks and will help if they can- but your best help or faster maybe would be gear box..

Another thing you might be able to try- example- My postal share the pain was give to me and was used- The guy did not care to play it any more..

It would not install- kept saying either the disc is dirty and scratched or damaged- but it was showing from computer in the opti drive- I right clicked the dics clicked open- to view the files on the disc then I double clicked the set up file - it installed normally- and the game ran normally if using the disc- it just would not install normally.

Being I have aw and awp- I only need to use the aw and better disc at that- I do not need the stp disc any more- I do not play postal2 mp- so I do not know if I would have probs or not.. The game installs from the disc fine in xp.

You might be able to install the borderlands game the same way- Or I misunderstand your stated problems..

Maybe before you try and install again- check add remove programs make sure gear box borderlands is not there- if so delete the game- then goto x86 and from documents delete all gearbox/borderlands folders- then reboot- then try to install again..

It should not matter with borderlands how many time you delete and reinstall the game- its secure rom is not like say farcry2 where it gives ya so many times you can install or delete it- if deleting fc2 you need to also put in a code retrieval- so the last install does not count etc- borderlands has just the normal secure rom.

Bl runs great for me- tho my vid card runs a lil more hot being dx10- I was playing it on xp before- I just have to up my vid card fan speed- it runs fine- looks sweet to at 4x aa 8x af- But I have a wide screen monitor now also- I could run at more high settings in xp- but I normally played at 1024x768 on my crt's- my one crt could run 1600x1200 @85hrz- but for added recording performance- I ran at 1024x768- now I run 1920x1080 on my led lcd- so..

I hope you get it working like it should or you need etc..

Just an update...this morning the game installed just fine and dandy so what was happening on the 3 previous attempts is a mystery but
I went to the gearbox site and found some interesting facts re securerom and this game
(a) you are allowed to activate this 5 times (I personally think that suxs..pay for software I should by rights be able to activate as many time as I want period)
(b)the above does'nt matter because you can download a 'revoke activation tool" which you have to use prior to uninstalling/reformatting etc (now how much sense does that make?)
(c)there is a securerom tool you can also download to do something ( I will find that out in a minute and post results,if any)
This in no way changes my mind about securerom..I realise why they use it but my bet is I could if I wanted ,I could have found a crack for this game from any one of a number of sites.
So who does this inconvienence the most..mug punters who actually hand over the hard earned to buy the bloody game in the first place...

Hmm, I did not know borderlands had the limit or retrieve code tools.

I do not care for all that stuff either- it does not stop pirates or cheaters- more makes things hard on us legit folks is about it.

Oh ya I forgot- America may not have same security or rom that other countries or the eu might have. My secure rom might be the normal stuff. I think I have installed it over 5x but over 2 systems- It works is all I know.

As a fact the files I use to upgrade my borderland game with dlc's- are copied from my xp install- I just place them in the right place- less download times etc.. Good to go.

Ha ha now I might defrag again and start a new character in borderlands, maybe another hunter my 3 in order- hunter soldier and siren- I think I prefer the soldier- Siren is cool- but my hunter has the best craw. I like my hunter ok- maybe a toss for it or my siren.

My hunter is my only player to finish the clap traps and is lev 69. My soldier and siren are lev 61. My siren is my only player to play prove yourself and the first 75 matches at moxxi.

It is just I read so many folks saying they have so and so back pack slots and many are more than all 3 of my players- I think I have only 45 slots- some say 50 or more like 61 slots- I do not know. My 1 bud I play co op with says his one soldier has 48 slots- I know he does not know how to use mods or willow tree type stuff. If I did not get any extra slots I would be a lil upset- but could use the moxxi storage or the craw might be sweet- I love the game and my new system would make some nice videos.. Be nice if moxxi gave ya more than 42 slots- so much stuff in this game.

I think I need to get into the game- eat while I defrag etc. Sad My bud and I can not start a new game start to end- saving clap traps only 1 player gets the back pack slots etc. That would suck. Solo is the best I guess until play through 2.5/3 anyway- Again not all get same rewards maybe not even the host. I love playing the game with my buds and all- but if I miss out on important stuff it is less fun then. I wish it was 1 set limit- then I would know exactly how many slots etc I should have. Its aggravating.

I did not start any of my dlc's until my characters was in pt2.5/3 maybe starting new and play the dlcs in each play through before I complete the destroyer- I might get more slots- I have read you can glitch the clap traps and get more slots- I can not get it to work- or I was not doing it right.. I should not have to glitch it- it should be set at 1 number and for all..

I actually like the ability to revoke an activation on a PC, if the game has a activation limit.

EA does this as well, but it also auto runs if you just uninstall the game.

They should really make this info a bit more well known.

Well if someone did'nt know (points finger at self) about the activation revoke and IF they wanted to play the game again really really badly they just might go out and buy it again....so they sell another copy..not that any company would do that of course.

I can only assume it's not in there best interest w/e that may be.

I started my new hunter- played a few hours of borderlands.

secure rom stuff has never gave me probs- I am glad I never had game' with starforce tho- I have read it can be from the pits. I think most other folks talk about it because others do- I have not known any folks that actually has ever had any probs with secure rom- starforce is another story tho- I do know folks that say it ruined their os and had to reinstall etc.

I guess some folks do have probs- I do know it will not stop pirates etc- so it is useless really- just like punk buster and some more make ya feel good stuff. Most people that will pirate will and most that cheat pirate- they do not buy games then cheat.

I can avoid I guess rom stuff I will not try and burn a iso or copy of a game disc etc- I will copy the program files as back up and just move them when needed. I can burn the program files to disc or move to storage etc. So secure rom is useless for that too.. Rom can be avoided in many ways.

If it ever gives me probs I would think on it more- is maybe all I can say.
