Security and Ownership

I have recently installed windows 7 x64.
I have a user and admin account.
I loaded and tested all of my software thru the user account.

I have one program EASEUS Todo backup that failed to run at all under under the user account bu,t work fine in the admin.

I change security permissions (for EASEUS) under the user account to full. Same results. I went a little further and changed the owner from admin to system.

The program now starts and prompts me for the admin password to continue.
This works.

I looked at some other programs and notice the owner varied from admin, user, and SYSTEM.

Why are some programs owned by SYSTEM and other owned by admin, or user?

What would be the affect of changing owner of all of them SYSTEM?

Hello nabulldog, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you have not already, try right clicking on the programs's shortcut, and click on Run as administrator to see if it will run afterwards.

If so, then you could use OPTION FIVE or SIX in the tutorial below to set it to always run as administrator when opened.
Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Yes, I did try that. The only thing that really made a difference was to change the owner to SYSTEM. Now that I think about it I believe it also worked if I changed the owner to user and set the user permissions to full.

I am really curious about why there are different owners associated with various programs, especially when they were all load under the same conditions(user account, enter admin password to install).

For fun I changed the owner some of the other programs to SYSTEM, they ran fine.

That's why I was asking what the effects of changing owner to SYSTEM would be.

It may have been my imagination, but it seemed as though the programs actually started closed faster after I changed the Owner to SYSTEM.

Are there any downsides to changing the Owner to SYSTEM?

That will work.

As long as your user account also has permission to access it set as well, then it will not hurt anything to set the owner to SYSTEM.
