Your current security settings do not allow this action.

Everytime I try to open a .swf file this message comes up. I have tried every codec pack and security option I can find and have tried installing Adobe Flash and shockwave player several times and have spent several hours trying to solve this issue.

I am thoroughly annoyed at this operating system at this point.

I simply want it to allow me to do what I want. Not much to ask or hard to do. It simply will not allow me to open a .swf file. No reason given or any help offered when the window shows up. It should tell me what setting where is causing it.

I spent a few hours through control panel and other folders changing options one by one with no luck.

No media player I can find will allow me to run these files. I can run them through Mozilla Firefox but after downloading the files it prevents me from opening them.

I tried searching the forums here and googling for an answer but with no luck finding anything that helped.

I am tempted to simply uninstall Windows 7 and go back to XP if this simple issue is so hard to find an answer for.

I assume you are running as a standard user. You might want to try run as admin. It might be your AV, but I suspect a registry entry needs to be changed

No see I am the only administrator account on this computer.

There are no other accounts on this computer to use it under.

When logging on it says administrator. Not sure how else I am supposed to do anything about that.

Can you describe more exactly what you're wanting to do? Are you downloading flash movies and then unable to play them? One option would be to convert your SWF files to another format, such as AVI or FLV and then you would be able to play them in the usual media players.

.swf files are created for web pages. Manually open it in IE8 or FireFox, or drag the file into IE8 or FireFox and they will play it. If you want to view them in a Media Player you will have to download a special player for them.

Are you sure it really is a .swf file?? I just tested a .swf file on 5 different machines and it always plays in IE7 or IE8.

Try Media Player Classic: Free-Codecs.com :: Download Media Player Classic 6.4.9.1 : Media Player Classic is an enhanced version of Media Player 6.4

A few years ago it supported .swf I think it still does, however a few years ago the original developers stopped working on it and now it is being updated by new people. I have not used it for .swf files.

Let us know how it works.

Yeah I am glad I finally got it working.

I still have no clue what could have caused it because I have tried like 4 codec packs before this lol.
