Well, this is directly shot from the 2016 Kaspersky USA site-

It was my mistake.
I had originally replied that the price seemed high.
I had not noticed that it was for 3 years.

So, yes, the price seems good, especially for 3 years.
Having said that, there may be better prices at reputable online sellers (NOT ebay or other wonky places).
And, for safety, I buy the boxed standalone, rather than the digital download.

But there is no harm in purchasing directly from KL.

For what it's worth Kaspersky currently has a sale going for Total Security at $129.99US for three years for 1 to 3 devices, normally $269.97US. I'm considering a switch but I really need to try it out first.

notifies that network and router is vulnerable, due to obsolete firmware, yet we're running latest Netgear

firmware. And there's other issues, as well.

The price in my post was quoted to me by a Kaspersky rep on the phone. I had questions about the number of devices covered. Oddly when I asked if renewals were less he advised me that right now they are the same price due to the sale. In addition he advised me that the quoted price was for a limited time but didn't seem to know when the offer would expire. I will be looking in to it further especially if I can't figure out what's up with Eset.

Hmmm, that source seems peculiar... that being it disagrees with every other test comparative out there.

The other considered sources pretty much indicate that both Bitdefender and Kaspersky products are the

highest rated in all of the benchmark categories. Bitdefender's a rather thrifty prog, whereas the Kaspersky

is a bit pricier.

How they are compiled:

This test is updated every day at two o'clock in the morning on a sample of about 1000 threats (see details for the exact figure). This test is based on the recognition of new threats with antivirus, why we call zero-day detection.

The principle of this test is very simple and can be made every day a quick opinion on detections of various antivirus products. This test was created solely for informational purposes. We take the most recent samples of our databases and we subject them to various antivirus products. Once out of the sample, we scan (with VirusTotal Online scanner) directly with the latest update of antivirus products to show their effectiveness.

This means that products are being tested against only new zero day threats found in the wild. They are compared against VirusTotal detections for those same threats to see if the product can detect and block or remove them.

This is different method of testing that some would argue is more relevant.

Just one other point -- this burned folks in the past, so I will mention it; unless something has changed:

The clock on a subscription license begins on the day of PURCHASE. And there is no grace period.
So, you'll want to install it on all of your devices as soon as possible after purchase, to avoid losing days.

The clock on a standalone license begins on the day of ACTIVATION on the 1st device. Also no grace period.
So, once you activate the license on the 1st machine, you'll want to install it on all of your devices as soon as possible, to avoid losing days.

Thanks for the info MM I'll be sure to look in to that. I will more then likely be running the trial on both machines before purchase so they will for all intent and purpose be installed should I go that route. The rep advised me that the trial is a fully functional.

Yes, as far as the subscription goes, well, that's the industry standard. Avast works on the very same principle, and they make it a bit tricky to run through the opt out.

AV testing is a mixed bag, IMO... truly no Ad Hoc governance in effect. Virus Total, to me, appears to be constructed in an open source fashion, not unlike a vault of known record, with a scanning system to run a comparative analysis.

Seems like a lot of hocus pocus in the AV software world.

Yeah, I think we're going to give KL a try for a year. Actually, when I get my report from Avast, usually there isn't but 1 or 2, if any, instances that are blocked. Of course, I suppose browsing habits would have a bearing on that.
