Security Tool Bag

Thank you malexous. Avast has been going down hill from what I am seeing and I would'nt wish any Norton product on anybody.

Again

ESET
Malwarebytes
A squared
Superantispyware

With that setup my home has been infection free for 8 years. And I have 3 Children that surf unresricted. Total safety.

However I do almost always forget to mention that my network sits behind 3 routers. All have their firewalls running.

I think its overkill myself but my network runs and hums and I get everyting I want.

I would have agreed two years ago but in 2008 they completely re-wrote the 2009 version and have improved their product even more with the 2010 version. I only tried it again on the recommendation of my brother but I'm glad I did.

I recommend Norton.

thanx for the thread. that what i've said, avoid "too many" mate :)
I posted the link more for seag33k, to agree with/back-up your good point.

People experience with all these products is very helpful! I just installed the Avast Internet Security, I like the all in one design. It appears all of the major vendors have a similar solution. I'd like to use something similar with a few additional Malware tools. Maybe an additional one running live and a few on demand to provide another layers of scanning. As long as I am at home, the untangle server does much of the protection, but when I am not at home I want the additional protection :) Gdata looks like they may have a good product based on the AV comparative reports!

I thought I should reply here as not to hijack someone else's thread.

How does Hitman Pro compare to Emsisoft Anti-Malware? I am running the trial and noticed that when monitoring system usage compared to Avast & Comodo, it is more taxing on my system.
Are you running Emsisoft real-time? Hitman Pro is purely on-demand, for now. It only scans for active threats but it is very good at it, in my opinion. (Long read. Edit: Not as long as I originally thought.) You can read exactly how it works in the Command-Line Reference: Downloads - SurfRight

Yes I am running Emsisoft in real-time mode. Seems like a bit of overlap with my AV software. Guess I am leaning more on the paranoid side of things, but hate to see my new laptop beginning to show signs of being somewhat sluggish when I first login.
Emsisoft Anti-Malware has an anti-virus engine so I wouldn't recommend using it with Avast!

I'm paranoid too but even when only using an anti-virus and Firefox (IE 6 was a different story) and regularly going to the "darkside" on XP (Windows 7 is less vulnerable) we didn't get infected for years.

Some people run LUA, SRP and SuRun only (no real-time anti-virus, anti-malware, etc.) They don't get infected because they are advanced users and would have to let something run for it to infect the system.

Avast! and ComodoIS (with Defense+ enabled) are enough, in my opinion but I prefer using something like Sandboxie instead (less pop-ups and isn't developed by Comodo).
