Security Updates

Hi,i have BitDefender Total security installed on my laptop, is it necessary to install security updates while BitDefender block all kind of malewares and it's firewall block any internet attack and why ?

Hi, Carson.

Although BitDefender is protecting your computer from malware, etc., it is only as good as its definitions. No security software vendor has the definitions for all trojans, worms, rootkits at any one time. Should you inadvertently hit an infected site with outdated software -- whether it be Microsoft Security updates or 3rd party software (Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, Oracle Java, etc.) then you are out of luck.

I recommend always keeping your antivirus updated. My antivirus updates every hour in the background. I also keep Windows updated. There thousands of virus, malware, spyware that come out every day. Your programs should be updated often so your security programs can add those definitions to your system. This will give you and your computer a better chance of not being hit by one of those bad things.

always install security updates if you care about your computer and what's stored in it.

microsoft often find security holes in their operating systems, and the updates plug those holes.

they are a different type of vulnerability/exploit than viruses - so always install the security updates, and keep your AV up to date.
