Running two antimalware at the same time might degrade system performance

Do you have a firewall?
The free windows firewall is a good choice
My personal preference is malwarebytes in lieu of your antimalware software, but to answer your question the answer is yes.
You do not want more than one malware product, however. Defender is anti malware.
You may want to look into the free WinPatrol. Scotty, the cute liitle dog, will bark and notify if something new is added to your system. A nice device to have. I know that our own Corrine, recommends the product, too.

You common sense is your best defense. You will get a lot of opinions but.... my 2 cents is, Use Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes. This will probably free up some of you resources and along with your common sense you should be in good shape.

It's not so much about installing an anti virus or whatever and just forgetting about it. You should check sure that it updates itself, but more importantly--

Make sure that your web browser and any plug-ins (EX: Adobe Flash / Reader, etc, etc) are always up to date, as well as installing all important Window's update when they are released. That will make the life of your anti virus much easier as it won't have to deal with 0-day flaws so often (They'd be patched.)

Many including myself like MSE, Malwarebytes and the Windows Firewall.
I also use WinPatrol, but the choice is yours.
Your security is very good.

I think that my suggested combination is the best. Not for security only, but because they do not cause problems.
If I were you, I would download and begin to use WinPatrol. If you are happy with your other security software, I would keep it the way it is. If you become unhappy and ever want to change, I strongly suggest that you try MSE, Malwarbytes etc.

Winpatrol installed..The only thing that is preventing is I have 205 days of subs left and I dont want to waste that..

As I said, use Norton, use your subscription. If you decide that you want the free MSE, be sure to contact Norton; sometimes companies renew without asking. Then install MSE.

If you have the free malwarbytes, there will be no conflict. Once a week or so, you make sure it is updated and then run a full scan.

No.
Running On-Demand scans with Malwarebytes is perfectly fine. MB & Norton get along just fine with each other.

I have Noton + Spywareblaster on my machine and they do well together.
As well as Malwarebyte for the monthly on-demand scan.

Norton only gets picky with other scanners that are real-time. So anything like that is not a good idea.

Mse, 7 firewall, and sandboxie is all you need. And some will say sandboxie is all you will need.
I dont think you will need winpatrol with mse since mse has some behavior blocking built in.
