Hi all,

I have a problem is with a reasonably new core i5 computer running windows 7

Crashes started a few weeks ago. Nothing had changed - no new hardware or software installed. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to the crashes - I can be doing anything when it happens

Could not work out what was causing problem so I re-installed Windows 7 home premium 64 and ran updates, applied service packs and installed drivers.

Crashes continued (no BSOD - just crash and minidumps)

I have also replaced power supply to no avail

Have run memtest 68+ for 6 full passes and no errors.

Would be very grateful to get on the right track with this - sending me around the bend.

Cheers for any help

Welcome to SevenForums.

Can you tell us how the *desktop work in safe mode?

I have checked your dumps and all come with different bug checks but nothing specific. One of the dumps usual causes:
STOP 0x0000007F: UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP

Usual causes: Memory corruption, Hardware (memory in particular), Overclocking failure, Installing a faulty or mismatched hardware (especially memory) or a failure after installing it, 3rd party firewall, Device drivers, SCSI/network/BIOS updates needed, Improperly seated cards, Incompatible storage devices, Overclocking, Virus scanner, Backup tool, Bad motherboard, Missing Service Pack

Your best shot would be to take it back to the vendor/store you got it from, check and see what they have to say.

ok - have added system info and I am running in safe mode. Will let you know how it goes. As the crashes are not that frequent it might take a while to get a result.

In safemode I can copy a 90Gb folder form a network share. In normal mode it usually crashes.

Tried 2 times on each.

Hi koolkat77

Re-installed windows 7 (on a brand new hd). Did not have any crashes over night but got one this morning.

When i replaced the HD I did notice that 2 of the memory sticks are 1.5v and 2 are 1.65v. Could this be the cause?

Yes could be. Try adjusting the speeds and see if that changes anything.

Are there any recommended test / burn in suites I could use to cause a crash? I have just download Heavyload but no luck so far.

Frustrating waiting hours for it to happen...

Thanks for all your help with this Koolkat77 - it was the memory. Survived tests for the last 12 hours so I think it can be called.

I did run memtest86+ for 6 runs before without any result so I had discounted that as a problem.

Thanks again.
