Hey guys, I've just installed a new modem router and ever since, my desktop has been having issues connecting

I am currently unable to connect to a large number of sites (cnn.com yelp.com etc) while other sites such as gmail.com or youtube.com have no problem. In Dev Tools, I successfully get a Request URL Green Status Code. This problem persists across all browsers on the desktop and is exclusive to this device. Devices such as my phone or laptop which also has the same win 7 are fine.

This is what I've troubleshot, none of it accomplishing any change in status:
restart the modem
restart the comp
factory reset the modem
/flushdns
/registerdns
cleaned browser cache
turned off extensions
shut off and on javascript
changed chrome Lan Settings to Auto detect (also tried proxy)
reconfigured my ipv4 to connect via manual dns 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4 (no change from automatic)
scanned for malware etc
turned off firewalls
sacrificed a goat
and restart the comp again

If anyones got any other ideas I'm all for it.

UPDATE: While in the middle of posting this, after doing all this troubleshooting several hours ago, certain sites which were previously giving me this issue suddenly decided to set aside their beef with my computer and started working again, literaly within the last few minutes without any change to any settings at all. Sites like cnn.com though are still not connecting. Maybe this is just "one of those issues"?

Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome Ryan like the sacrificed goat LOL!! Now you don't have any specs in your post mate so
Now before we can help we do need to know what is in your machine so please do this System Info - See Your System Specs
or either enter the specs of your system in your forum profile the specs will appear when we click on that little box bottom left of the post screen it is for me the preferable option as it is easy. As you may appreciate it is very hard when you don’t know what one is working with for example a diesel or petrol engine.

Pre written cos I am always having to repeat this stuff - no offence meant

One thing I first thought of was have you tried contacting your provider for an answer?? and I am assuming if there was any software with the new modem you installed it?

Updated the specs, thanks for the call out.

Already talked to my ISP and they gave me the all clear which I expected because this is only happening on my desktop. No new software was installed with the modem, and yes the modem is registered with my isp as well.

Ok Ryan thanks for the specs mate and nice board;)

Now it may seem or sound too simplistic but I think worth a try is to update the drivers for LAN and WLAN
Z170-DELUXE | Motherboards | ASUS Australia if you have done this already it still might be worth doing them again as with a lot of things in Windows systems as your experience has shown it sometimes pays to persist with this stuff as the drivers may not have installed absolutely on cue.

Only takes a few minutes and what can you lose? I have used Asus boards for a long time now as well as laptops and I find reinstalling drivers can fix stuff like yours - again what have you got to lose?

I think it may also help if you ran these too if only to rule out any issues there
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2
Run these in safe mode and the sfc often best run for two to three runs – you can leave out the /r switch in ckdsk if you feel it not necessary
NB SFC best run for about three scans

if no fix then these

SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!
Malwarebytes | Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium
AdwCleaner Download
ADW download from bleeping computer delete any rubbish found with the malware scans
(NB If you are running Kaspersky as the main AV then it might need disabling it when trying ADW because it does not like it at times)

Again pre written to save time;)

None of it helped :(

I did an ip release/renew on top of it and had my ISP reset all my connections and clear caches, still no luck.

I am going to assume none of those scans did anything so which leaves us at a bit of a where to go next shame because you have a real nice set up.

What I might do is call in some help from a member I know who specialises in networking so just hang in while I contact her.

Hi Ryan,
sounds silly but some ISP's auto default certain privacy settings, in the modem.
Have a look in its log, see if its stopping them.
