Selected text color while using high contrast

Hi,

I'm using Office 2010 on Windows 7 (64bit) with high contrast theme (white on black).
When i select part of the text (in a word document, for instance) the selected text is highlighted with white background color.

Is it possible to change the background color and the font color of the selected text?

It seems that changes made to the "Window" colors in the "Windows Color" dialog (accessible from personalization), have an impact on those colors which leads to the conclusion that those colores are computed based on those settings.

I'm asking whether there is an option to modify selected text colors while still using black background and white text.

It seems that in Office 2007 it was not possible, since many users have complained about that in a various of forums. I hope that Microsoft paid attention to those complaints and hopefully made it possible in Office 2010, or at least used the more reasonable windows color parameters - "selected text".

Thanks,
Falinn

Hello Falinn, welcome to the forum. :D

Try this:
Right-click your desktop in Windows 7.
  1. Select Personalize.
  2. Select Window Color at the bottom.
  3. Select Advanced appearance settings
  4. On the Window Color and Appearance dialog, select Selected Items from the Items drop-down list.
  5. Select a color from the Color drop-down.
  6. To create a custom color, select Other from the Color drop-down, then find the color you want in the palette, and click Add to Custom Colors. Then click OK on the on the Window Color and Appearance dialog.
  7. On the Change the color of your window borders…window, click Save Changes.
Please post back to let us know if it works for you. :)

Hi Irene,

Thanks for your detailed reply.

Changing those settings does not seem to change Office selected text color.
I have "selected items" set to green background and white text. It does change the color of selected text while changing file name, for instance. However, if i open Word or Excel documents and select a part of the text, it is highlighted with white background and black font color.

I'm trying to find a way to modify this black on white selection color while still using high contrast white on black windows color scheme (the color of text that is not selected).

I think it would have been reasonable if Microsoft Office would have used the color setting of "selected text" for that, but it does not seem to work that way.

Does anybody know how to do that?

Thanks,
Falinn
