hi, i was thinking about upgrading my cpu, but im not sure wich one is best.
i was aiming for the phenom ii x4 965 125w or the 955
i read that if i upgrade my bios it supports both cpu, i also read the the 965 125 is not as good as it 140w counterpart what is the best choice?

also, if i buy an amd hd6950 will my psu support it?

If your GA-MA790X-DS4 has the AM3 socket you can use the PhenomII X4 965 or 955. It didn't look like there is a BIOS revision for the socket AM2+. The Phenom will fit the AM2+ socket, but the AM3 CPUs have a different memory controller and may not work properly.
I have the 125W 965 and have had 0 problems, except when I dropped it and bent the pins.:o

Some reviews for your board report the NB gets very hot, so I'd go with 125W so you don't make it even hotter.
