Self Reboot

I've noticed over the past months that my computer reboots itself on Thursday morning somewhere around 3:30AM. This is not every Thursday but when this happens it is always a Thursday.

This morning, my cat was sticking his nose in my face and woke me. I got up to pee and saw that my computer was on (it always goes to sleep at night) and appeared to be going back to sleep. However, when I finished my business, I saw the computer at the log on screen.

In the past when I awoke in the night I'd see the light from the screen but would go back to sleep. The only way I knew it rebooted was the absence of Keypass and the gmail prompt.

I checked the system logs. Only thing I saw was a Services Restart at 3:30AM. Seemed like W7 was doing routine maintenance. Does a SR reboot or is this something different?

It could have been an automatic Windows Update that needed a re-boot

The easiest would be, check in task scheduler (just put Task Scheduler in the run dialog ) to see what is scheduled to run weekly on Thursdays.
I have several tasks run at night during a month like defrag once a week at night, certain backups etc (but that wouldn't require a reboot)
A service Restart usually doesn't require a reboot (any more info on what service exactly was restarted?)

There is only a weekly backup for Sundays at 7:00 PM. There is no info available in the logs other then a lot of activity beginning around 3:30. Nothing specific other than system logon stuff.

Are you sure you checked all scheduled tasks? Check on the left side the Task scheduler library and open all "folders"
I had some Customer experience stuff running Thursdays at 3.30, I didn't know about so I got rid of it
Something about participation of some USB improvement group
And another one about portable devices
Geesh I think I really have to trudge through the whole mess myself...those things are supposed to be "opt-in" which I don't recall doing

There is an important enough update delivered this week that will restart the computer instead of just asking you to Restart or Postpone. I know because I juggled it in my tray this morning while it kept counting down to restart.

Checked the update history and was notified that the system was updated at 3:01 AM today. Guess that solves the mystery.
