I have just finished a clean install of Win 7 Ult X64 on a SSD. The hardware was in another case and I built one with it in a new case for my wife.
Hibernation disabled, page file set to max of 1536MB, and User Files on a separate HDD. Fairly small space for Win 7.

Is there a vlite for Windows 7? Any other tweaks? I am just blown away!

Good thought. SSD should hit 7.9 after it runs a few hours.

Well, now there is rt se7en lite. But it looks like it's not fully supported. Supposedly creates smaller installation by selecting what you need. NICE HD SCORE!

Wonder how others feel about paging file size. Obviously moving it to HD in this case is self-defeating, tho.

I'd also want hibernate, a favorite feature.

Let us know if you have any problems with installers run from Downloads on another HD having unfixable permissioning issues, as seen here on several installs now causing me to move them back.

This is a full install of Ultimate 64 bit. Getting rid of Hibernate and reducing the page file helps a lot. Before I did that with nothing installed it was at 15.5 GB used.

Oh, and having user files on a separate drive, saves about 2GB in this case. It will be the wife's, she doesn't have much data.

Most feel a bigger page file is better. I think WHS recommends at least having one since Windows uses it regularly instead of RAM. I did leave it on the SSD though, you're right it would serve no purpose to move it to a HDD.
I have been installing software to the SSD to have the performance bang they have. I used Kari's tut to move user files and Program Data during the install.

Will have to use it for awhile to see, I can't really see a difference at the moment. I'll move it back to C: if things start getting boggy. New word maybe, boggy.


EDIT: I have installed Word and Paint.NET and they both snap open before my finger releases the button. Both formerly took 6-10 seconds to open.
