Senate Approves Internet Censorship Bill

That's it, I'm getting a laptop, getting my "stuff" through it, then transferring them to my rig. This insolence will NOT stop me!

By the way, it there a way to make a laptops IP to appear as a foreign IP or simply bypass this garbage? Also, Europe sounds appealing... :geek:

This is what VPN's are for.....not really but its what most p2p users use VPN's for. Make sure the VPN allowed p2p, doesnt save information, and is not based out of USA or UK.

Im not saying you should download illegal content (you shouldnt, and I dont). Nothing is foolproof. If you are seeding a movie that is popular and out in theatres obviously you are going to have a much higher risk of being caught than if you are seeding an 80s flick. Just dont be dumb!
Believe me, I'm not a regular person, nor a dumb one.

Although I don't understand... how cam a VPN be tracked back to a laptop which uses random, I think, IP's? Also, if the same can be done to a desktop PC then combined with "Peerblock" you're good to go.

Also, is speed affected using VPN's?

this is getting near dicey territory, Skulblaka, but your security via VPN is by no means air-tight. And Peerblock? That's like you wearing clothes made of bacon and walking through an alligator farm.

Heh, it's alright, but simply put, whatever they try to do, I will look for means to bypass their restrictions. If they're successful on implementing this foolishness.

Let's cross our fingers, or burn a wee-gee board, or however superstition works, that they will drop this.

I hear ya, Skulblaka. You are not alone. Fortunately, we don't have to worry about this bill for the time being. It is, essentially, DOA. I don't know how long it will take to bring similar legislation to a full vote. Probably not going to happen the next two years, but it might. We know there are plenty of meddlers in power who love doing nothing but meddling in everyone else's lives. The more they can meddle, the happier they are and the more miserable everyone else is.

Bill is essentially dead, there's enough opposition outside of committee that there's no time left this session to get it to a full vote.

What's troubling is this passed out of committee 19-0. I can understand a split vote down party lines or whatnot, but not even 18-1? There wasn't one person who saw through this garbage?

Idiots.

Idiots indeed. Reading stuff like this makes me seethe with anger. I hope it is dead for good. Total bullshit.

Oregon Senator Wyden effectively kills Internet censorship bill...

It's too early to say for sure, but Oregon Senator Ron Wyden could very well go down in the history books as the man who saved the Internet.

A bill that critics say would have given the government power to censor the Internet will not pass this year thanks to the Oregon Democrat, who announced his opposition during a recent committee hearing. Individual Senators can place holds on pending legislation, in this case meaning proponents of the bill will be forced to reintroduce the measure and will not be able to proceed until the next Congress convenes.

Even then, its passage is not certain.
