Send batch file over LAN connection
Hello everyone, I would like to send a batch file to all the computers in my house and have it run itself.
Do you guys know of a way to do this?
Thanks in advance.
Computer Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Built OS Windows 7 Ultimate RC Build 7100 CPU AMD Anthlon 64X2 5600 2.80 GHz Motherboard ASUS M2N AM2 NVIDIA nForce 430 MCP ATX AMD Memory 2x G.SKILL 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 800 Graphics Card(s) GeForce GTS 250 Core Edition 1GB Monitor(s) Displays Sceptre 20" Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Hard Drives Western Digital Caviar Black 500gb 7200rpm PSU 500w Rosewell Case Antec 300 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000 Other Info Its not the best, but hey, its sure is reliable.
I'd assume have every computer in your house have another batch file set up to automatically access and run the other batch file.
If you were able to push a batch file to other computers, then that would be a security risk that hackers could take advantage of.

Possibly use a flash drive to deliver the Batch file to each PC.

the ONLY thing im using this for is to update the anti virus software (ironic lol) on each computer (i currently have 6 up and running 24/7) and it would be really nice to be able to just send out a batch file to start the process. If i used a flash drive to deliver it, i would have to do it every time on each comp and that would defeat the purpose.

You dont need a killall command to do this.. This can be done by scheduling the update process in the preferences section in each computer...

But why can't you?,
Surely it wont take that long to sit at each PC, set it to update at such a time, and move on to the next.

I would have done that if i could. It is not possible. No option to schedule a update.

6 computers...all connected via the same lan...
This screams Remote Desktop...remote in and run the bat...
OR
make the bat...remote in...make a new task to auto run the bat which does what is necessary update the anti-virus...
I would like to know what anti-virus you are running that doesn't have an auto updater:sarc:. I would consider looking at alternatives

Hi Tews
Not really true -- since Servers often work like this -- for example a Work server can initiate say an AV scan of a client computer to be run at a certain time or a software update to be run say every Monday at 07.30.
Backups are particularly suited for this type of approach.
If you run Linux systems the Crontab will schedule scripts to be run at specific times -- perfectly "Normal" operation -- nothing to do with Malware.
Cheers
jimbo

try setting a task to run the bat file. if the bat file needs to change often have it pulled from a network location.

Is it the same antivirus program for all?
It should be possible to download the updated definitions on one pc and push the definitions out to the others (instead of re-downloading them?).
OR
If you know how to start the update via batch, just add the batch file to windows 7 task scheduler
