It would appear Windows 7 Home Premium doesn't support Msg.exe or Net Send, but other versions such as Ultimate may do.
You might want to try this third-party utility: Net send in Windows 7/Vista with Sent utility. Sent - an utility for sending net send messages from command line

Have to say that I've always avoided MSN, I might explore that.
'Sent' also looks possible but I still feel it should be much simpler than that. After all I can transfer data between PCs as it is, how hard can it be for the receiving PC to flag that there is incoming with a desktop message? Well for me it would be impossible but someone out there..........
