Hi

I'd like to send messages to other people on my work network which comprises of 5 Win 7 pc's and 2 Win 10 pc's.

As an example, a customer might be hogging a member of staff with non-work related chatter, or a customer in a consultation has run over time and the message would serve as a cue for the staff member to bring it to a conclusion earlier. Don't get me wrong, the customer is king and we value them very highly, but at the same time we have a tight schedule to work to that customers aren't always aware of.

I haven't managed to find a freeware option that allows me to send an instant message to a network pc. I don't need complicated chat windows, just a simple pop-up that plays a sound and has a message saying "Your next customer is ready" sort of thing.

Any ideas gratefully received.

I didn't find an app for that but did find this, which is for XP, but should work in any Windows-

If you wish to send a message to another computer in your network, click Start > Run. Type cmd, and press Enter.

In the window that opens, type Net send followed by the name of the computer to which you wish to send the message. Next, enter the message. For example, the format should resemble "Net send PC01 can you read this message?"

You could probably write a batch file to do the whole thing. Since the computers have different names, you would probably want a batch file for each PC if you want to be selective.

Thanks all.

Net Send doesn't work with Win 7, instead there is a different command called msg, but I couldn't get that to work.

Email is a workaround but too clunky for what I'm trying to achieve

Hats off to F22 Simpilot for some great suggestions. I could only get Fomine Net Sent to work properly over my network, and even then some pc's can send but not receive.

Many thanks, I now have a usable solution.

My apologies for erroneously assuming that Net Send was continued in later versions of Windows. :o

This link should shed some light on the MSG use in the later versions-

Msg Command (Examples, Switches, and More)

However, I'm glad you have an alternate solution.
