One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.​

Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.​

This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from
anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.​

So I said to the Lord,​

"You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you,
you would walk with me always.​

But I have noticed that during
the most trying periods of my life
there have only been one
set of footprints in the sand.​

Why, when I needed you most,
you have not been there for me?"​

The Lord replied,​

"The times when you have
seen only one set of footprints,​

is when...
I carried you."​

I wish you both the best and urge you to hang in there and never give up.

Being a cancer patient myself, I know it can be tough at times, but always look forward. The good thing is that they can probably use the "Gamma Knife" which concentrates the radiation in one area with very little spreading of it and is highly effective. The fact that there is nothing in the lymph system is a very good sign.

I wish you both the best outcome, and tell you that every day, they are making advances in treating cancers. Explore every option for treatments and don't be afraid to get a second, or even third opinion.

To all of you have posted your thoughts, poems, experiences, and offered your prayers, I thank you. It means more than I can ever express.

We received a major setback yesterday afternoon and I will be spending my weekend with Mae Lyne in ICU. Yesterday around 16:30 (4:30 PM), I went into the bedroom to wake Mae Lyne up from her nap. I found her unconscious, totally unresponsive, pinpoint pupils, turning blue, and barely breathing. Of course, I dialed 911 and started first aid by trying toclear and open her airway. The EMT's arrived and after a struggle intubated her and started the respirator.

To make a long story story short, she apparently tried to take two antihistamine tablets and one without getting it all of the way out of the plastic bubble. A piece of the plastic had lodged in her windpipe. Her windpipe swelled and cut off her air.

She is heavily sedated to keep her from pulling the myriad of tubes. When they cut back on sedative drips and she rouses, she does know me, responds to me and focuses on me. She can't talk; but she mouths I love you. She responds to questions by nodding her head appropriately. Her vitals are all good; kidney function is good.

So this, unfortunately is our weekend. I don't mind admitting it; this really got to me. But I am still optimistic if not quite so upbeat.

Wow! Sounds like a close call Carl, but her responsiveness is a very good sign for minimal harm. We will wish the best for you both! You are very kind to let us know.

I have heard of people chocking on hot dogs and such, so it could happen any time to any one of us?

Even when things seem the bleakest, you'll still manage to find inner strength that you didn't know you had.

And it's entirely normal not to feel as upbeat with pain, uncertainty and fear as a constant shadowy and unwelcome companion.
