Sept. Updates vs Oct. Updates?

I had hidden a good share of Sept. updates due to questions I had about them. Since we're close to Oct's I decided to work on last months but still not sure of some & when I search for answers I get things that are over my pea brain so am wondering if I should just keep them hidden to then compare with Oct's, maybe some will be pulled?

One is for Defender which I've never used but can't uninstall.
One is for Servers 2008 & 2012, I have Windows 7.
One is for games, which I never play & 'thought' were all removed.
One is listed as Recommended but at the same time seem to go with one that's in Optionals.

They're all confusing. :o:confused:

A couple more questions before I get started. And I do know that it's best to just do a couple or so at a time with reboots in between.

In which order, from the top down or go back to find original Publish date? Right now the top 2 are .NET 4 & have read that .NET's should be last.
And back to my 1st post, why am I getting update for server when I have 7? And what about the Recommended one that in 'More Info' refers back to an Optional one?
Sorry to be like a 2 year old with all the "why's".

That's why it's best Not to Hide an update because you would Never want to Hide a Important update,
Optional's depends because there're Recommended and Optional,
You should load Recommended updates or let them sit while you research them/ waiting a week never hurt anyone and see if they get recalled.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/24376-windows-update-hide-restore-hidden-updates.html
I've been on Manual for both categories for a long time now just so I can decide When to load them and I don't have any surprises on Tuesday or Wednesday mornings but the Important ones I usually load right away regardless I just choose the time when they do download and install.

Not a problem :)
Personally, I always leave the .NET updates until last - and those, I'll do v3.5 before v4 or v4.5

I usually start with anything that says it's a Security update - and install all those at the same time, then follow with the other Important ones, then the .NET and Office/Skype/etc ones, and finish with any Recommended or Optional ones.

There's a line in the KB article on your featured update that states:
Install update 2853952 on the Windows Server 2008 R2-based Hyper-V host. Also, install update 2853952 on the guest if the guest is running Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7.
It also has a 'clarification article' - which only succeeds in muddying the waters further in this case - at Clarifications on KB 2853952, Server 2012 and Active Directory error c00002e2 or c00002e3 - Ask Premier Field Engineering (PFE) Platforms - Site Home - TechNet Blogs

Since it's an odd one, I'd be tempted to install everything else first, then run another Check for Updates, and see if it still appears - then install it if it does.

Defender is part of the OS - and can be disabled easily - and can be effectively uninstalled using the Windows Features option in Programs & Features. It will probably still want to be updated, though, since the files will still be present on the system.

Again - using the Features options to 'uninstall' games still leaves the files present, and in need of updates for security reasons, in case you decide to reinstall them :)
- there's always a chance that some of the files involve extend outside the Gaming areas, as well.

For specifics, we'd need the actual KB numbers for each update.

Thanks Thrash, but since MS has pushed out too many 'badies' lately, I've become real shy of just trusting them even tho' I know that's stupid on my part 'cuz then when I go read up on the updates, I have problems understanding them anyway. I know you're here to help but didn't need to give the link, as I already know how to hide & restore, my problem exists from that point. As I'm sure you can already tell, I'm PC illiterate & would be "up a creek" if an update caused me a problem.
I shouldn't do this without being asked but will try to post some shots of what I'm up against 'cuz I need to get away from this chair, expecting company anytime now.
Edit: didn't get shots posted & now don't have time.

@Noel, still confused but am just going to go ahead & install all tomorrow when company is gone.

This is crazy

Noel, after reading your reply I went back to hide the odd one for a bit, but went ahead & hid all to get a better look at which were Security, Important, etc., then saw notice "One Imp. Update", it's that darn KB2859537 from Aug. that had earlier been 'pulled' from my list so hid it too. Then I see that the IE 10 that had been pulled from my list just recently was back??!! Evidently it makes a difference due to what I hide?? Wasn't sure which KB's you were referring to in your reply so am posting all that's in my Hidden. The KB2834140 'Recommended' is the one that seems to me, goes with KB2670838 which is in Optional.

Install all the Security updates for Windows - then do another Check for Updates.
Have you got the NVidia drivers from their site? which version? Is the offered version later or earlier?

Driver stuff is over my head, have never done it, don't know where to go or what to look for & do. :o
There's also, in Optionals, Acer-Display, dated 1/7/13 and nVidia-Network-Controller,dated 1/2/13. I should have asked about them long ago.
You really are dealing with a dummy.:(

Thanks Noel,

Just finished my hidden except for the "odd one" & the 2 .NET 4 & the nVidia. The list got whittled down some by MS after the Oct. list came out. Now I see 2 more .Net 4 in Oct. list. But am gonna sit on all Oct. list for several more days anyway except the IE 9 which I did along with old hidden ones.
S'pose I could mark this solved?

I wouldn't advise installing Nvidia or any other driver updates through the Microsoft Windows updates, far better to get them from the manufacturer's website, after checking the forums there as to the best drivers - the latest aren't always the most reliable.

My motto is that if a driver ain't broke, don't fix it - i.e. if your system is running well then don't change drivers for the sake of it.

Second desktop different spec but similar level.
Thanks Seffrid, but I have already learned from this site to NOT install drivers thru MS updates. My problem is that I don't understand enough about drivers to even know if I should update. As far as I know, I'm still on drivers that came with my PC that I bought in Feb.,2012. Seems like I've seen some 'warnings or errors' in my Events Viewer that refer to drivers but that's all I know.
