when i installed kubuntu on one of my ssd i installed it without any other drives plugged in the MB so i could keep windows away from the grub manager. so i could independently boot my operating systems. when i install kubuntu again i will do the same steps.

The only other answer would seem to be a repair install I have to go now MvdB can go through it with you as its his good idea.

Are you sure you did a Repair? Or did you go back to a Last known good configuration?
Also on your other post with the seperate disks/OSs, please explain more exactly what you did?

it was a start up repair, windows 7 was the first operating system installed when i got pc. earlier this year i wanted to run linux distro kubuntu so i installed kubuntu on a separate ssd drive, without the windows 7 drive plugged in.

There is another reason for sfc to fail like this... An unfinished windows update that was hoping for a correct reboot to finish. There are a couple of ways to check this... The safest is probably to do a reset of the Windows Update sequence and try to make m run again: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/91738-windows-update-reset.html

Another, a bit more risky that might lead to a later reset anyway, but much quicker: Try**removing or renaming**x:\windows\winsxs\pending.xml

After that, retry the sfc command.

there was some updates that did not install and under my investigations with windows it was trying to up date updates that had already been installed. this happened during the problem with the drivers windows was installing after the crash. **removing or renaming**x:\windows\winsxs\pending.xml i have already looked in to this and the feedback i get is not good when you do this most have to re install windows.

There is a risk, I know, but I never seen a problem with that. But, no worries, try the reset.
