Serious Problem with MSN

Ever since i installed the newest version of MSN it's said all my contacts are offline. I can't message anyone and they can't message me. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling twice now and still nothing. Anybody know what i can do?

Did you allow all of the WLM components Internet access? (I think the contacts component of WLM has its own .EXE file.)

On the hotmail webiste they do yes, and i can talk to them through it.

it was never called that in the first place, and it's been wlm for over five years.

At first, I wondered why anyone was still using MSN dial-up internet. As for the WLM, that most often refers to Windows Live Mail it seems. IM apps are slowly dying out, as far as I can tell. I used to have an AIM list with 300 contacts running through Trillian. At any given point, I'll log in and see one or two people online, at the most.

I don't have WL suite installed anymore, but after a quick Google I'm pretty sure the file in question is: C :\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Contacts\wlcomm.exe

Try giving that a allow/permit permission in your computer's installed firewall.

Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Messenger, it's very unfortunate that they are exactly the same abbreviated. Though when it comes to a toss up, I'll always call the messenger 'WLM' and the mail client 'WL Mail' (Since 'Messenger' takes longer to type than 'Mail'!)

It is common on the web to refer to (I think) messenger as MSN. I was humbled enough not to challenge this - glad you did it first.
But, truth is, to me, MSN is a Web page produced from a Microsoft origin. In fact, I use it as my default Home page in IE.

This is a not uncommon problem with the new messenger. I do not use it, but one solution I have listed, seems to be the answer:
Return back to the previous version of microsoft live 2009. ( Windows Live Messenger 2009 Build 14.0.8117.416). There is a softonic custom download manager. You can trust it, BUT don't install the toolbar. Disable the option during setup.

log on with live messenger 2009 client. All contacts, should now be online.

Download the offline installer for live messenger 2011. Instal lit, without removing the old version. Let the live installer do it for you.
The new re-installed live messenger 2011 should log on without any problems and all your contacts should be online.
