LF, your bootloader is now in the Win7 partition, if you image this partition it will contain that and the next time you have to restore it will come back the same way.

A question: if you just restored XP it should not have messed up your bootloader, unless that image was from before you installed Win7?

When you reinstalled Windows 7 it reestablished the correct dual boot. You could have also achieved this by running a repair install (Upgrade over itself) from the Win7 desktop which would have saved your programs, files and settings.

In the future, if you reinstall XP it has no way to configure the dual boot so it must be done manually afterward using EasyBCD to Add the XP listing by name, type and drive.

My suggestion is to use the built-in Windows 7 backup center to create an image to store externally (and to a primary partition if you want), which can be reimaged to your hard drive (or a replacement) in 15 minutes by booting from the Win7 install DVD or Repair Disk and selecting "Recover Using an Image".

The backup center can also backup your selected files and refresh the backup image on a schedule you set up. Just keep the external drive plugged in, or save to another internet HD.
