I've spent a day and a half trying to get service pack 1 installed on a machine.

I've tried shutting down my security programs, installing it manually, and the fixits from this post: http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/194500-win-7-sp1-fails-800b0100-error-2.html.

I'm beginning to think maybe my error is different from the common ones you see everwhere online. In fact, I haven't seen 8004100E referenced anywhere else in the contxt of the service pack 1 failure.

Does anyone on this forum have any ideas, or even hints?

You can always get a Clean Reinstall with the latest installer. Many consider that daunting, but to many others it is better than getting a new computer!

Yeah, I think it might come to this. I keep hoping the solution is right around the corner. But, of course, I could've had everything reinstalled by now.

I haven't been able to find anything else to try. I'm reloading Windows and starting from scratch. Oh well.
