Solved Service Pack 1 won't install

Hank, any luck? I am having trouble also but I manage to download the pack, but then when the computer reboots it says there has been a failure and I must wait while my computer is reconfigured. I have tried at least 14 times, downloaded the system update readiness, turned off AVG, downloaded alone, and I still get the error about I am trying to download something assigned to another name, whatever that means. I will try this idea about untweaking my logon screen as I disabled alot of Aero. I will get the error name and repost here, any other ideas let me know your success.

After attepmpting to install SP1 for over a year and trying a bunch of different stuff I found this today and it finally worked!!

I am curious as to why you have had such lack of success with SP1.

I'm sorry you feel that way because Windows 7 is a great system.

Yeah I run registry cleaner, avg pro, tons of stuff, went to the Microsoft website for help, tried all the fixes online and even went to a computer shop where they tried to load it from disk with no luck. The people there weren't too happy with that service pack either. I just didn't want something pending trying to install day after day, easier to go back. Thanks for the advice!

SP1 wouldn't install if the boot screen or logon screen has been changed for the purpose of customising the computer. If that was done then one must first restore the original screens and then install SP1.

After SP1 has been installed one can revert back to the changed screens. When SP2 appears one has to remember to do the same again.

If I was you I would check your "Windows Module Installer" in services. I also have had that problem for a long time, till I decided to do something about it today. If you can't install Service Pack 1 and also if you're having problems with installing iTunes, Windows Module Installer, may be the culprit.

First you will want to check and see if Windows Module Installer is working or if it's missing.
Click Start and in the search box type in "Services" then click on the one with the icon Shaped like a gear.
Scroll all the way down till you see "Windows Module Installer"
Once you find it, double click on it, you will see the preference menu pop up.
If your WMI (Windows Module Installer) Has stopped, click on Start, then in the middle you will see "Startup Type" Change that to "Automatic" and click "Apply".

That's how I fixed my Service Pack 1 issue today, after 5 months of not being able to install it.

Let me know if that helps you. If you can't find Windows Module Installer; type in google "Missing Windows Module Installer" or Open a Command Prompt.

Do a dir \Windows\TrustedInstaller.exe /s

See what directories TrustedInstaller.exe is found in. There should be one in C:\Windows\servicing. If not, copy it from one of the other locations it's in.

On my Win 7 Pro X64 system. it's in

C:\Windows\servicing

C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-trustedinstaller_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_ed02252b66d7bca2

Reboot, then start Services and see if the Windows Module Installer is listed. If yes, set it to Automatic and Start it.

I am having the same trouble installing Service Pack 1, but none of the above seems quite to cover my experience. I am running Windows 7 Enterprise N and When I try to install SP1 using Windows Update I get the Error Code 9024200D. I have followed the links from the help popup and installed and run both MicrosoftFixit50123 and the System Updates Readiness Tool Windows6.1-KB947821-v22-x86, but I still get the same result. It is a recent install of Windows 7, I do not use AVG or any registry cleaner, and other Windows Updates, including more recent ones, have installed perfectly.

Any suggestions, please?

You can also download and install the System Updates Readiness Tool, you haven't said whether you have the 32-bit version of Windows or the 64-bit version so I'll give the links for both versions of SURT.

Hi tried both of these beginning with readiness tool but am stuck because after SP1 was supposedly installed the machine went to reboot and began its "Configuration of Service Pack". It got to 9% and stopped. It's been at 9% for 14 hours now but I'm loathe to force the machine to shutdown as it will undo all the work I have done.

FYI, I used Microsoft's "Reset_Windows_Update_Full" batch file prior to installing anything as Windows Update refused to download anything. I got the SPL executable direct from the link you supplied above.

Any suggestions as to what steps to take next please?

I eventually got SP 1 to install (after several failedattempts through the Update Options that come with Windows 7). Yes, it wouldbegin to install, but then, as above, fail. Btw, I had Windows 7 Premiumedition on my computer, and didn't have to disable my Norton anti-virus.

The only way I could get SP 1 on to my computer was throughthe link below, and followed those options - so delighted it worked:

1. Go to this Microsoft site (DISM or System ReadinessTool) - the series of accompanying images here will explain and shouldhelp, too.

2. Download the DISM appropriate for your OS (32, 64etc...you'll find them about half way down the page for Win 7 SP1). Note, Ihave a slow download broadband, so it took ages, however, it eventuallydownloaded, and so glad it did.

3. Also download the Microsoft Update Catalog in the abovelink (it's very small).

4. Type in your SP 1 number in this Catalog optionsafterwards (for me it was KB976932, so I put in 976932).

5. And from there you follow the instructions (as given inthe link showing the images etc.,).

It worked for me, and I downloaded the Windows 7 SP 1successfully (I needed it to update my Internet Explorer from IE 9.0 to IE11.0, as IE 9 was no longer supported, and so giving total grief when trying toview content in other websites).
