Solved Service Pack installation failed with error code 0x800b0100.

OS is Win 7 Home Prem 64-bit. Cannot install SP1, and one of the .Net 3.5.1 updates (KB2656355 and KB976932). Get Error: TRUST_E_NOSIGNATURE(0x800b0100). Have tried many of the suggs, but can't seem to lick this. After running SURT, looking at the CheckSUR.log, it appears that a third KB is mucking it up (KB2416471)??

Tried the sugg at How to fix errors found in the CheckSUR.log, dropping the appropriate .msu (KB2416471) WU file in the C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSUR\Packages folder, like it suggests, and re-running SURT, but the CheckSUR still indicates the same problems. Saw on this forum where many have had success by someone issuing zipped packs, but are specific to individual user's problems (I assume the specificity of the fix has to do with what is in the zipped file?). Hoping I might be as lucky :D.
Have attached the latest CheckSUR.log.

Also - not positive (it's a client's machine), but I believe this machine was in-place upgraded from Vista Home Prem to 7 HP. I think that may have something to do with it?? Shame on MS if that is the case.

Any assistance would be greatly... HUGELY appreciated!!!

Was it my zip files that you saw by any chance? Yes, these issues are specific to the user that I'm helping. This should be a 5 minute job, but I've had all sorts of curveballs in the past.

Before we continue, I need to know whether the computer is x86 or x64?

Dropping the .msu file in that folder will do nothing whatsoever I'm afraid, it doesn't say to do that in the link that you provided either:

  • All files of type *.mum and *.cat should be placed in the %WinDir%\Temp\CheckSUR\Packages directory
  • All files of type *.manifest should be placed in the %windir%\temp\CheckSUR\manifests directory

Thanks for your response!! I think it may have been your zips. The computer is x64. And, respectfully, it does say to put the .msu in the Packages folder - in Step b. (the FIRST Step b. (there are two Step b.'s in the link)). But maybe I'm not understanding what it is asking, cuz what I attempted did not help, or I missed a step. Thanks so much!!

Thanks for the info, I'm managed to source all of your files. Fortunately for me, the manifests also come from the same update as the .cat and .mum files. Oh, well in that case I'm sorry :) I've never heard of that before and it conflicts with everything I've been taught, not to mention it didn't do anything in your log. Here's how to fix your problem:

Windows Update Package Replacement

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.


  1. Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
  3. Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
  4. A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
  5. Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests
  6. Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages
  7. Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again
  8. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log


You will probably be shown the error code 0x8024200D after performing this fix, if so, please download and install the update from this link. It must be downloaded using Internet Explorer.

Make sure you download the file Windows6.1-KB2416471-x64.msu
