Set up Malwarebytes PRO

How often should I setup MBAM PRO to scan and how often should I change my antivirus to scan? I scan using my antivirus every day since I am delusional that I might get a infection.

Side note: I finally will get to start using the software that I reccomend but don't use. Yippee!!

The best thing about MABM Pro is it has real time protection,
I would set it for once a week preferably when the machine is not being used,
Same goes for your av,
Both work much better if the machine is not being used at the time of the scan,

Mine is set to scan weekly, Sundays at 5pm

It is also set to check for updates hourly.

I think I read that version 2.0 will be out within a few weeks, and that any of us with earlier Pro licenses will be fully entitled to it.

I scan often with all my security programs. I manually update a few times a day. If I tick on a hyper link in a post that looks or acts strange I stop and do scans. If I download a new program or program update I scan to see if anything might of came along with it. I'm a hater of PUP's.

Keep in mind that when you are doing a full scan with Malwarebytes, you are accessing each file. Your antivirus is probably set to scan each file that is accessed by any other app. So... you sort of get two scans for the "price" of one. If you are going to do a full scan with Malwarebytes, then update the list of nasties to watch for in your antivirus app first.

There are some caveats to that way of thinking. Compressed files might be handled differently. e.g. Malwarebytes might load the compressed file into RAM (or part of the compressed file) and then check its contents while everything is in RAM. The antivirus tool might not scan the compressed file's contents unless those contents are written to a drive.

Also, "on access" scans by your antivirus app are usually not as thorough as a regular antivirus scan could be. During a full scan by your antivirus app, compressed files are probably checked in much the same way that I described above.

Yeah for some reason, it has more items scanned when running a scheduled scan. Must be that it does scan compressed files since scheduled takes longer.

Well I bet MBAM PRO will be way better than AVG. (Yeah, hard to believe at my reputation) I just don't want to change until I get new PCs. Its kind of like a dual transition.

You may be comparing apples and kumquats. MBAM Pro and free are intended to supplement an antivirus program or suite (such as AVG), not replace it. It's there to hopefully catch anything that slips by the AV.

Unless you are getting the new PCs in just a few days, there is no reason to not use MBAM until you do get the new PCs. Why cheat yourself out of the protection you could be having?

Oh you read my posts in best deals of the day. I did change my mind. I will run it right away when I get the keys delivered. I'm just worried that the hard drive on my desktop may die and I will lose my license key. (It is 6 years old ) Will Malwarebytes understand this if it happens?

A boxed version of MBAM Pro comes with an installation disk and a card with the installation key printed on it. I would copy the key over to a text file to keep on your computer so it can get backed up (you do make backups, don't you?) and keep the card itself in a safe place. I posted instructions on the other thread on how to transfer a license but, if your drive does go belly up and/or you do have problems moving the license, just contact MBAM from their website and they will help you out.

Btw, don't bother to use the installation disk. If you already have the free version installed, just put in your installation key to unlock the Pro version. If you don't have anything installed yet, download the latest version from online; you would have to do that anyway since the version on the disk will not be the latest one.

Good grief, you're going to worry yourself into an early grave! Even if the computer fails and if you have to get help from MBAM, it's not that big a deal. As long as you have a copy of your license key somewhere (as I mentioned earlier, you should keep backups of it), you will not lose the use of it, no matter what.

I am very tempted to go pro with Malwarebytes I have RoboScan AV and Winpatrol running so would I benefit from going Pro ?

Yes if they don't have real time protection. Maybe if they do because Malwarebytes PRO is advertised to stop zero day exploits.

The pro version provides real time protection,
So chances are it would block a threat instead of finding one after the fact,
Are these other utilities free versions ?
If so I would take the pro version all the way to the checkout line

Yes that's what real time protection does. It gets what the av doesn't.
