Set Word 2000 so That the Options I Use Open at the Default

I'm still using Win7/Pro x64 and Office 2000. I'm pressed for time until early 2020 when I hope to have more time for an orderly transition to Win10/Pro x64 and open source document and spreadsheet software. Once you get to be my age you are careful about not rocking the boat because there is a significant risk you might drown instead of righting it and getting back into it.

I've noticed that when I click on my 'QuickLaunch' icon for Word, the document that opens must be using different 'Options' settings. I need to reset what it opens so that the All the formatting marks in the Tools/Options/View menu are requested.

Is there an easy way to restore this? I'm downsizing to fit into a retirement community and now is not the time to research such a topic.

What do you want to see that you're not seeing when Word opens? I assume you have the Tools on the toolbar and you can open Options\View.

Yes, I can set the Options\View so that I see all the formatting marks. It makes it so much easier to check to see what is going on.

What I had, but no longer have, is having that setting be the default when I open Word from the Quick Launch Bar.

The same is true if I open a new document using File/New.

Just to be clear, you're saying that the settings you make in View don't stick when you close Word or File\New?

Yes, the settings are lost each time.

As I approach 80 I'm having more lapses of memory.

Have you tried opening a blank document, making the settings and then saving the document by it's default name? Kind of grasping at straws here.
