Hi All.

Ok, I'm trying to set a private LAN between my Win7 pc, and a Xp Pro pc that I'm using for dev stuff.

The Win7 currently connects to the net via a wireless adapter which connects to a router which connects to the internet.
This has a set IP address of 192.168.1.15

However, I do not want the Dev system to have the internet, which at the moment is doesn't

I have connected the two machines with a cross over cable.
On the Xp Pro machine, the TCP/IP is currently setup as:

IP: 10.0.0.5
Subnet: 255.0.0.0

And thats all.

The settings on my Win7 pc for this LAN network were set to:
10.0.05
255.0.0.0
but this keeps defaulting to
192.168.127.1
255.255.255.0

However, the connection does work from the Win7 to the XP pro machine, but not the other way. Again I'm too worried about this.

The main issue I have is that the LAN is shown in Windows 7 as a public Unidentified network network. I wish to change that?

Any ideas. Hope I've been clear ,and please tell me if I have set this up completly wrong.

My main goal is to have the two pc''s connect to each other, on a completely different network (IP addresses etc) from the Win7 and the internet.

Connect Dev system to router. Use router to disallow internet access based on mac address.

The routes downstairs, so that cant happen. The set is working at the moment, I just needc to know if I've done it right, and how to have Win7 see the LAN as a home/private network, and not public
