Hi :)

My hard drive consist of two partitions, one for System, and one for my stuff, programs, movies and so on...

Computer has three accounts, me as Administrator and two that are limited.

Here is what I want to do:
- I have movies at other partition, and some important stuff, so I set permissions that only my account can access partition...
- My brother wishes to watch movies from his account, and sometimes I am not at home, and I am afraid to give him my password
- There is about 30 different folders on that partition, so is it possible to allow other users access only to Movies folder, without having to set permissions to each folder manually...

Hope you understood my question? Thanks :)

Setting permissions can be challenging to some. One option you should consider is to get and external usb hard drive, place the movies on it. Then you won't have to worry about access to your profile. Then he can log on to his account and view them.

Permissions

Technet permissions

Yes, you can set permissions onto single folders and or files. It works the same way as the partition.

It's possible to setup permissions in that way, no problem, but you have to deal with the advanced permission dialog.

First off, grant yourself full control over the whole drive. I would do this by, in the advanced permission options of the root of partition, delete everything from the list, add your user back with full control, and tick "replace permissions from secondary objects.....". Apply and only you can have access to the data, with anyone else having no permissions at all. If I understood correctly, you reached this point.

Now the trick. Again in the root drive, add your brother, but this time when you specify permissions, set the "apply to" option to "only this folder", and grant only read data and execute file permission (2nd and 3rd options). He would be now able to see everything in the root folder of the drive, but without any access to subfolders. Now again, in the movies folder, you can add again him and give read only to the full folder, so he gets access to there only.

Remember to test all this before handling the computer to him. Login under his account and see how much you can or can't see.
