I run a Compaq Presario with a built-in Conexant microphone. It worked fine in Windows Vista but when I tried to set up voice to text after I wiped to Seven, it didn't even recognize that I have a microphone.
My laptop got smashed really badly a few months ago, () and idk how to tell if this is a problem with Seven compatibility, or because my microphone got destroyed when my computer was hit.
Any solutions? I was going to try to update the drivers but since it doesn't recognize a mic at all that didn't work real well.

All that comes up is my speakers, which are working properly and are fully updated.

Nothing in sound/video controllers or the other categories? Then your microphone is dead.

While not exactly portable, you could try a desktop USB mic. Unless your laptop has external 3.5 mic jacks. If you try a usb mic when you set up a mic for speech you'll probably need to select 'other device' as the button for desktop mic is looking for an anolog device I think.

Other Info
I hate the smell of friggin corn chip butt breath snacks.
I've had issues with that too.
It doesn't work for me in the 5.1 setting. Change to Stereo and see if it works, as it did for me.
