Mike,

That looks like the entire CBS.log, could you do the steps in OPTION THREE (click on link) instead so it will only include the [SR] entries from the log for the SFC scan. It's just to large to sift through otherwise. ;)

The OPTION THREE section where you use the command below in a elevated command prompt?

It will produce a sfcdetails.txt file on your desktop that is the log file needed.

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

Thank you. SFC reports that it cannot fix this one file below in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. This file would affect
  • autochk.exe
Right click on this file and click on the Details tab to see what "File version" it is. If it's 6.1.7601.17514, then you may be able to use the copy from system in a ZIP file below to replace yours with. Once you have extracted (drag and drop) the file to your desktop, you can do step 12 and the yellow TIP box in the tutorial below for how to replace your copy with this one. :)

my Toshiba laptop came pre-installed with Win 7, I will try the hotfix but looking on the forum it appears to be a fairly common problem.
Fortunately everything is running fine at the moment despite the message.

I appreciate your help.

Hopefully the hotfix will work for you.

You can also use STEP FOUR in the tutorial below as a guide as well to help show you how to replace this file. It's for Vista, but you would just subsititute your extracted Windows 7 file instead of the Vista one in the tutorial.

Well, it's up to you, but if you already have the SP1 installed for Windows 7, then it's going to be about a year before you see SP2. You might as well give the hotfix a try if it's the same for the issue you having.

Well I am not absolutely certain this hotfix does address the problem I am having. Unlike some others, I have no problem using CHKDSK, and all my programs are working fine. I do not know how important the autochk.exe file is, because although corrupt, it has not produced any problems so far. I discovered I had a corrupt file after doing my monthly sfc/scan, and with your help, which was an education in itself, found it was the autocheck.exe file.

PS I can run CHKDSK but not CHKDSK/F

So far so good. :)

That should be chkdsk /f instead with a space inbetween.
