Does anyone know of a GOOD (free) software program for shadowing text? I'm speaking, of course, of drop shadowing on text to give it that 3-D look. I have Windows 7 Pro OS, 64-bit.

What do you want to use the text on? If it's on a webpage just use CSS to apply a shadow.
If not you could invest in Adobe Photoshop, that's very good. Although seeing as you mentioned free software I suggest you take a look at Gimp.

Thanks so much for the advice. I did try Gimp the other day but didn't find it at all user-friendly. Tried for at least an hour to shade the text but to no avail; couldn't find how to do it. I obviously have "much to learn." No, the text is not for a website but rather for making an electronic signature that can be inserted into documents.
I'm aware that Photoshop would have no problem doing it, but certainly can't afford the hefty price tag for the software at this point. Thank you again for your help, though.

paint.net is free and may suit your needs. A search for 'drop shadow' on their site should lead you to the steps you need.

Try Word Art in Microsoft Word which gives you some fancy colorful 3D letters....

It's kind of trite now but awhile back it was cool to use Ray Trace programs to make text with some serious 3D and effects like ice etc.. Maybe it's out of style enough to be unusual again. :)
