Share files directly to another IP address

My GOD isn't there ANY way to just use Windows 7 to connect to my buddy to give him some files or for him to give me files in a sort of FTP like environment??? any links to tutorials would be sufficient.

I just want to create access to one or more folders on my HDD to let my buddy access my offerings without sharing my whole system or HDD.

is there ANY way to get this job done without using a torrent client or uploading my files to a website?

this seems to be the MILLION dollar question all over the net! LOL

Easy enough to do with free 3rd party software called Team viewer.

Team Viewer looks like it is nothing more than a fancy remote desktop invitation.

I do NOT want to give control to someone, AND I want my connection to be secured by a username and password... AND i am not too fond of agreeing to 3rd party terms and possibly go through their servers for something i should be able to do with my own computer.

and it seems as if i just give complete control to those allowed.
is this incorrect on my part? because i didn't see anything that allowed me to specify folders to share... i just accept connections. Could you or someone please specify to me a tut with some more details in to this matter? I would really appreciate it.

Just lock the files you don't want to give access too by using the sharing permissions set to "nobody".

An easy way to share through the VPN is to put the folders you want to share in the Public folders and enable the Public folder shares in the Advanced Sharing Settings at the Network and Sharing center. If you need to lock down the other folders then disable the file sharing for the Work and Home Advanced Settings window.

i found this while fumbling around:

So lets say he shares out c:\temp as the share "temp". And his ip address was 192.168.0.1 then you could go to your computer and:
Click Start
Click Run
in the box type in \\192.168.0.1\temp
If he set a password, you'd be prompted. From there, you can copy the file. Make sure he shares it with WRITE access.
The alternative is, you could share where the file is on your system as READ, then he could do the same with your IP address, and pull it to his machine.

but I don't know how to set up a share to be able to do this.

Where is your buddy's machine in relation to yours (physically). If you are both on the the same network you can start by providing iponfig edetails from both machines.

click Start, and type int he run, and type int he little field box "cmd". Hit enter.

In the black command window, type "ipconfig".

Do this on both machine and provide the detail of each here.

Apart from some of the suggestion off setting up your machine as an ftp server, have you considered setting up a website where you are able to upload and download files off? One of these method would be less challenging thant he other for you.

I just can not fathom in THIS day and age that this can NOT be done so simply and easy. Unbelievable.

i am dinking with Filezilla Server and am trying to get to myself via FileZilla Client and this is not happening. I am not even sure what to give my buddy for info. I am assuming i need to give him MY ip address, the user name i created, the password i created, and the default port of filezilla server. a 1 hour google search has brought me nothing by way of info on this subject... and when there are NO answers, that usually means it is NOT important, or there are really no issues relating to this subject matter.

i will have to wait until tomorrow to test this server thing out.

i am thinking it would be faster to just use FileServe, but this is an issue he and I have been trying to solve for almost 2 years. Our most successful attemt to date was torrenting, and it worked good with the exception of my up limit was 100KB/s (not Kb/s) which is my limit obviously, but i use Vuze and to make a torrent worth its salt i need to keep uTorrent installed JUST TO MAKE A TORRENT!!! I like Vuze because of the smart throttling it offers.

This is just pure insanity in this day and age. can this be done any easier??? This IS after all 2012!!!

It's not challenging for ME. and uploading to a website to let him download is SERIOUSLY not happening.
I want DC... Direct Connect.
I GUESS I have to share my system and then go and unshare 10,000 folders.
I have an extra 750GB HDD, can I just share/FTP/VPN one single drive, or again MUST I share the system and then unshare drives? this MAY be a bit quicker than right click/unshare seriously 2,000 folders.
