My main machine runs Win 7 ultimate upgraded from Vista. I've had a home network with an XP Professional laptop. The laptop could see my machine and an attached printer. Now the laptop can see the workgroup WORKGROUP but it is unable to see my machine. How could I fix this problem.

Welcome to Seven Forums, dubnikova.

Have you set the printer to shared in Windows 7?

Some printers need the driver loaded in the XP machine also, and the type set as "local" with an IP address (I know, sounds odd, but that's the way it seems to work.)
