When sharing in W7 pro you can
right click
properties
advanced sharing
add
permissions (add whoever)
and you still don't have permissions, or do you?
You still need to
rt click
prop
SECURITY and then add permissions.
Why...it is not redundant. Adding permissions in the 1st step does not, apparently, transfer to the 2nd step.

Homegroup was created when multi-device homes became more the norm, It still uses the same basic rules as the traditional workgroup but put's a more user friendly interface on it.
