Sharing files between two computers

I've made A crossover cable out of A old cat5 ethnal cable,what I did was took some of the pvc outer sleeving off, enough to exposs the wires and snipped the green, orange ,orange and white stripped and green and white stripped wires,then I bridged orange with green from one side to another and the other orange and green from the other side to another.

Then I bridged the white striped orange with the green stripped white. And the other orange stripped white to one another and the other green striped white to orange stripped white.

Have I sussessfully made A cross over cable?????


Then, I connected the cross over cable to the ethnal port of both the pcs I want to share files between and went to create home networkgroup in networks In windows 7,picked home network,It loaded choose what files I wanted to share,printers,Documents etc.Then It gave me a pass code,I wrote It down and went to my other computer,Clicked on homegroup In networks and was looking to join my existing network I just created on my other computer by typing in the pass code I wrote down,but instead of It saying joine network It said create network?

I'm stuck and I don't know If I'm missing anything,can anyone help out please?

That link doesn't tell me how to make a cat 5 cross over cable, it tells me the difference between A cat 5 vs A cat 6 cable, and gives me a link to the tutorial sections,Although I've tryed this:

What I did was going to Local Security Policy - Network List Manager Policies - Unidentified Networks - User Permissions and change it from user cannot change location to user can change location.

Still I will try the homegroup too. I will check the tutorials for that. I will write here the results.

And It's still coming up unidentifified network,maybe my crossings on my cat 5 cable are wrong...

Sorry I couldn't be more of help. I would do a search for network setup with cross over cables. IMO

How to set up a network between two computers?

1. Connect the crossover Ethernet cable to the LAN (RJ45) ports of both the PCs.

PC - 1:

- Go to My Computer > Properties > Computer Name.
- Change the Computer Name to A and Workgroup name to ABC and click OK to save changes.
- Go to Control Panel > Network Connections.
- Right click on your LAN connection and select Properties.
- Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties.
- Enter these values:
IP Address - 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
- Leave the other fields blank and click OK to save changes.

PC - 2:

- Go to My Computer > Properties > Computer Name.
- Change the Computer Name to B and Workgroup name to ABC and click OK to save changes.
- Go to Control Panel > Network Connections.
- Right click on your LAN connection and select Properties.
- Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties.
- Enter these values:
IP Address - 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
- Leave the other fields blank and click OK to save changes.

After the connections and settings have been saved, both the PCs should be connected by LAN. You may need to restart both the PCs.

You can check if the connection is working by pinging one PC from the other.

For PC-1, Start > Run > CMD > ping 192.168.0.2
For PC-2, Start > Run > CMD > ping 192.168.0.1

You can view the PCs in My Network Places. You can now use this LAN connection to play multiplayer games or share files. You can also map a drive on another PC to a local drive by using My Computer > Tools > Map Network Drive > Select Drive Letter and network path of the shared folder on the other PC

Then,go into my computer,and 'homegroup' on the left handside,you can know browse your files on the other computer.
