I am using a custom Windows 7 theme. I have removed the taskbar border by altering images #845 and #1028 in aero.msstyles (in the IMAGE folder) using Resource Hacker. But the problem is that I'm left with a 1px grey border above ONLY the start button in the taskbar, which looks very weird. Am I supposed to alter another image to completely get rid of the taskbar border?

Here is the border than I want to get rid of: imgur: the simple image sharer

Thanks for replying.

Here's a link to the custom theme: https://mega.co.nz/#!w00SGbDL!Z2H1tAj_-kBlMYvhqYVi4UNAr6ZiRY9gbhD-k4-4GNo

It's actually a slightly altered version of Mare-m's Windows 8 RP theme on dA (which can be downloaded here: Windows 8 Release Preview Theme for Windows 7 by ~mare-m on deviantART)

The above #s are actually incorrect. That's for the regular Aero theme. :o

Here are a couple of important image #s for this theme:

#921-924: notification area + start button taskbar border images
#1150-1163: taskbar button images and progress bars
#1166-1173: middle taskbar border images

I've already replaced images #921-924 and #1166-1173 with transparent PNGs, but I'm still ending up with a border above the Start button. :/ Can you figure out what image I need to edit to get rid of the 1px border above the start button?

It's more noticeable when I "use small icons" in the taskbar. Here's an image: imgur: the simple image sharer

I edited #921 again to make sure it was complete transparent, and it was. The border is still there. Also, if image #921 was the problem, wouldn't it also show in the notification area?

I also switched to the classic theme and switched back to the custom theme after logging back in and the border remains. Is there any easy way to figure out what image the border is in?

Wait, did you download the theme from deviantart? Because I downloaded the theme again from there and only changed the images you changed (921, 1166 and 1168) and the border is still there.

That's good to hear, I'm very surprised that you had to replace the images but whatever works.
