Short dst error on 2 different drives after update

First time to post here, so any help would be appreciated. HP 4520s crashes at windows boot after I factory reset and installed updates. It booted prior to updates. Ran HP test and it showed short dst failed. I read that is a hard drive failure. I installed a new Kingston ssd last night of installed a non hp copy of Windows 7 and all the drivers. Worked great after most updates. Installed another important update (not sure which one) and the same thing happened. The crash happens before windows logo. Hp tools show short dst again.

I find it odd that 2 hdd and 2 different copy's of windows load fine until updates.

I have tried a third hard drive and a third copy of windows 7, same result. Start up repair can not fix short dst error. Could it be the windows update or a hardware issue other than hard drive?
