Win 7 Ultimate x64 on a Dell E6410. When a file/folder name is changed, any shorcut linked to the file/folder no longer works and must be manually restored, i.e., deleted and new shortcut assigned. In WinXp the target name can be changed and the shortcut maintains the connection to the target. Any suggestions on how to restore this feature/make it work in Win7?

Shortcut Re-Links Solved

It worked!! Thanks. This has been an annoying glitch since switched over to Win7. Couldn't find an answer in any of the knowledge bases/blogs. Appreciate the quick fix.

Service Routinely Stops

As noted in earlier post, restarting the Distributed Link Tracking service corrected the shortcut linking issue; however, sometime after restarting the service and changing the startup type from Manual to Auto I noticed the shortcut issue had resurfaced. Checked the Service -- it was off and the Start Type was set to Manual.

I didn't change the service and no one else has access to the computer. McAfee installed and current.

The Distributed Link Tracking service is dependent on the RPC service. Checked the RPC service settings: Type: Auto, Status: Started.

Haven't noticed any other services dropping off line, but could be happening if not obviously affecting my use of the system.

Any clue as to how this service (any service) can arbitrarily switch to Manual start on its own accord?
