I have a couple of Yahoo icon shortcuts on the monitor that won't work. I have a Yahoo email account as well as a Flickr account and put shortcuts on the desktop so I wouldn't have to type Yahoo.com to find the account but neither will open. I dragged the address over to a corner of the desktop thinking they would work. On the Vista computer there's no problem with that. I tried left clicking and right clicking to open to no avail. Any suggestions?

What happens when you double-click them? Nothing?

If you right click and select Properties, verify that is shows URL: followed by the web address. Example URL: http://www.sevenforums.com/

If that looks OK, maybe there's something wrong with what browser are set as default. Try and click the Windows Start Orb :orb: and type yahoo.com and press Enter. Does a browser open?

Nothing happens when double clicked or anything else. right clicking does show the URL. The browser(Firefox) does open with yahoo.com. I'm not sure what the trouble is as like I said, I have those same two on the Vista computer and they open right up./

Then I suggest you right click an empty space on the desktop, select New - Shortcut, and type or paste the addresses you want opened. If that works it must be a problem with the drag and drop you used to create the shortcuts.

And I have to ask: these shortcuts do they by any chance require that you are logged in at Yahoo to be able to see them, so when you open them from a shortcut in a new browser session the page is redirected to the yahoo start page because then you're not logged in? Or maybe I've misunderstood

When I get an email notification of a response to a thread started and click on the "This thread is located at"....nothing happens. I had to come back and find this last response. Maybe that's part of the problem with the shortcuts not opening in some way.

Those same shortcuts work on my Vista computer but not here with the W7.

ok, well then it's maybe a problem with the default browser setting. Go to the Firefox options, Advanced, General tab, and click on the button at the bottom "Make Firefox the default browser"

FF is my default browser. Well, for reasons unknown to me I decided to restart and when I did the shortcuts are working...go figure these computers.

Great!

I understand FF was your default browser but sometimes strange things do happen as you say, so my suggestion was to reset it as default anyway, since it wasn't behaving as the default browser. Might be worth trying if the problem reappears.

They all seem to be working now. Sometimes a fresh restart is what it takes. I've done several changes to the computer today, added two more 4G memory sticks and a new extra HDD. Maybe it's like me and can't handle changes well.:D
