Solved Should Be a Simple Question

When doing a W10 (free) update (via the internet) on a W7 PC, the W10 installer near the end of the installation says "Checking for Updates".

Question: Does this "Checking for Updates" use the W7 update service or the W10 update service?

If it tries to use the W7 update service, I'm out of luck because my W7 (Checking for) update service no longer works. It stalls out and never completes.

Can someone please answer the above question?

Actually, my failed W7 Update service is the reason I want to replace W7 with W10. I've tried for days using MS FixIt's and many other 'fixes' to get my W7 Update service working, but all have failed

post CheckSUR.log located at: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS

Windows updates are taking a long, long time (hours & hours) Set power options to sleep never. Run windows update.

If you still have issue you might want to consider Repair Install

If you don't have DVD or your Windows product key, I can help you out. Just ask.

After waiting for hours, I got impatient with a internet W10 upgrade and bailed out.

I finally succeeded in a good W10 install on a Toshiba Notebook by instead downloading the W10 Upgrade using another (W7) PC to a thumb-drive. Then I did the W10 upgrade on my Toshiba from the thumb-drive instead of the internet.

So far, all seems OK with W10 on this little Toshiba
