Should I allow IE8 windows updates ?

With the announcement of IE retiring and on going aggravating problems with my PassWord manager and IE 11...I bit the bullet and decided to go back to Firefox....seems like the best current alternative ?

I uninstalled all version on the PC of IE...except of course IE 8 which I think comes with Win 7 Pro. Question is should I block any and/or all updates to IE 8...even tho I won't be using it...or should I allow IE 8 to update regularly for system benefits/welfare ?

Should I only be greying out further IE version update requests...and leave IE 8 alone to update at will...as long as it stays IE 8 ?

I would update date ie as released 8-9-10-11 and all security updates,
Then if you don't use it there's no harm.

Not installing security updates serves no real purpose besides having a unsecure windows feature sitting around

You should update IE to the latest version supported by your OS and keep it fully updated, even if you never use IE. Microsoft may be retiring IE but that is of no relevance to Windows 7. It is not just a browser but an integral party of the OS. Whether you use the IE browser or not there are parts of the OS and third party applications that use IE components. Components that are not updated could potentially be exploited by malicious software. Don't assume that your AV software will protect you from this.

Having an old version of IE installed could cause a variety of security and compatibility problems. It is possible that such things as Windows Update will some day fail with an old version of IE.
