There is a virus on my pc at work that I'm unable to completely remove so I'm going to re-format tomorrow. I really want to install 7 instead of XP but I don't know if I should. I don't have any hardware or software that would pose a problem (I know I haven't given full specs but believe me it won't be an issue). I need opinions as to whether or not I should go for it.

This would basically depend on your work - if you are responsible for the PC and it's maintenance and it is acceptable to your supervisor then it's OK.
If you have an IT department that is responsible for the system then it has to be their decision, it's their hardware after all
Of course it's different if you are your own boss ;)

I'm the office manager so there's no problem with me installing any software. I just can't decide. 7 runs so well on my laptop I'd expect it to run well here as well but I can't really afford a lot of down time fixing potential problems. XP runs really well. I don't really know what benefits I would get installing 7.

In a case where potential downtime is an issue I would advise that you go for a dual boot just adding in Windows 7 to the mix at times when productivity demands allow.

To be totally honest I would suggest that a parallel system would be the ideal - testing in a production environment can be a dangerous thing, and you always need an escape route if the worst happens.

Yeah, dual booting might be an option...I have to reformat anyway. This pc was riddled with viruses when I started here. NOD clened them all out bar one which keeps changing. Performance wise the pc is still good (I put 3gb ram in it recently). Yeah, I might dual boot

it's win32virut.NBP. Neither NOD32 nor malwarebytes can totally get rid of it.
