Solved Should i go for this deal or just be a waste?

I am posting to get a little insight as to would it be a bad thing to just fill all my ram slots ?

I mean right now the ram i am using i can get another 8 gigs for 65.00 american

There was also a post about ram prices dropping that is about 25 .00 dollars cheaper i paid 2 months ago

This is the ram here by the way FRYS.com*|*CORSAIR MICROSYSTEMS INC.

I have no issue with just sticking with what i have ,But in all being reasonable should i just roll with it since a have a little extra before my actually Bulldozer chips hits the scene ?

So you want a total of 16G of ram? Do you need it? If not then you computer won't use all of that in your daily activities. Unless you just want spares.

I know that is the debate though ,I have two systems networked and use the one i am on as the main

I also do alot of video streaming etc ,I actually rn fine with what i have and i don't even use all the 8 gigs

In all honestly i was just checking the prices and stumbled upon that deal also i don't like the idea of empty slots on my board even though i know more ram means ,more PSU usage

It's something to do i guess but im also wondering will my performance suffer from adding 8 more gigs off a overclock

Overclocking gets harder the more physical sticks of RAM that you have. If you have no proven need to add the RAM, I would not choose to do so. I mean, yeah...it's cheap. But use the money for food, gas, or other necessities.

I wouldn't bother it seems to be excessive unless you are doing photoshop morning noon and night, that likes ram, but if you don't like empty slots then go for it, at that price, it may be the start of a new build in the future,you will already have the ram in stock.

It is hard for a PC geek to come to grips it wont get any better then what i got :sarc:

I can always use another Bluetooth device for the Pc as well ....Guess ill be going with the 9.99 blue tooth gadget

Atleast the wife can't say I blew 70.00 bucks on worthless toys

Also would you have to decrease the mhz instead of 800mhz to lower few questions

No, you wouldn't have to decrease the mhz probably, but would have to increase the cpu NB. But, I would wait as Bulldozer is supposed to support 1866mhz ram without an OC.

I think what would be a Simple solution in my case is to get a refund for the price of the ram being displayed currently

Im thinking i could get the difference only because this Rig is less then 2months old

So i am assuming they can give me back my 30.00 dollars so i can get something else to play with

You don't need a tutorial to understand this...just the basics of overclocking. When you overclock, you increase the clock speeds of all your related hardware, such as memory chips. When you have 4 sticks, your chance doubles (compared to two sticks) of having one that doesn't play nice with the higher clocked speeds.

Yea that makes sense if you figure one out of four can be bad
I am always learning from here so it helps me to get input

Also i called the store i bought the ram from for the difference of what paid they told me it would be easier to contact the manufature
see what they think

It isn't so much that one out of four could be bad...it's just that with more chips, you have a much greater chance of having one not handle an overclock too well. Overclocking is far from an exact science. It is basically an exercise in trial and error. You push until something doesn't stay stable, and then you back off.

That is why i am doing it ! For the life of me i must get knowledge on the subject before just jumping in head first

Alot of things go right passed my head if not told about it ,I know more ram doesn't always add up to be a good thing I trying to work the maximum i can on this board

As pointed out I will get nothing short of what I have now I even overclocked this puppy to 4 ghz stable ,No point in pushing this chip any further anyway

The new selection should be out soon and Im figuring it would handle 16 gigs off a overclock cause it being a new platform thus my query that wil be another thread on OVERCLOCKING 8 core chips and who currently uses one

That's why I like this forum better understanding always helps instead of going blindly into the darkness
